Friends are Like Popcorn

"Friends are like popcorn. Most of them change under the heat and pressure but sometimes, in the bottom of the bag, there are a few kernels that went through the pain and remain unchanged." - Tristyn Vavra (5th Grade)

I have to say, I have some amazing friends who are always there for me. Whether I'm at a high in my life or I'm feeling so low that it seems impossible to recover, my friends still stand by my side and face life with me. We all have this group of friends, right? They are the ones who understand your stupidity, and they are the only ones who are allowed to make fun of you for it. They are the ones who God himself handpicked and blessed you with. They are the ones who you couldn't make it without.

Aside from my family and faith, my friends are my number one priority in life. I trust them with my life and, despite what they might have me believe, my trust is important to them. A few years ago, my friends and I attempted to "test" our trust with a couple of stunts. In reality, we were simply having fun and waiting for one of us to injure ourselves; however, if falling a few feet into a group of eight people and hoping that they catch you doesn't test your trust, I don't know what will. Needless to say, it didn't end very well, and we all went home with bruises on our legs and scratches on our face; however, it was something that we would never forget. For friends who couldn't get any closer, it was a bonding experience.

The bonds that were created that day and from that point on have only strengthened and grown. Years have passed and yet we have all remained the same friends that we were in seventh grade. Years from now, I can only imagine the kind of friends that we will be. Who knows, fifteen years from now and we may all be living in the same apartment complex while The Rembrandts "I'll Be There For You" plays every night while we air on television. The future holds many things, and we can only wait to see what it holds for us. Until then, Be true. Be loyal. Be the popcorn kernel in the bottom of the bag.
